                                  Letter to Georgie

Do you have a port?  Don't we all?  But wait, are we talking about a port wine, a port of call or.....oh, I get it, we're talking about a port that is surgically implanted so you can get the drugs put into your system directly instead of going into the veins in your arms.

Well, you should get one.  Go see this guy and he'll tell you all about it and make an appointment for you to go to the O.R. and get one of these handy, dandy gadgets put in your chest  And so it begins.

Be brave little girl.  Do what the doctors tell you so you can beat back this insidious thing that is growing inside your lung.  So what if you have to be on chemo for ever.  It's better than dying isn't it?  Is it?  I mean we're all going to die.  No one gets out alive.  Even Valerie Harper says that and they gave her a time line.  At least you don't have an expiration date marked on your forehead.

And if you feel like screaming, go ahead and scream, rant, rave feel sorry for yourself.  Just don't wallow.  No one wants to hear it.  It gets old after awhile.  Allow yourself some grieving time and then get over it.  Live your life as you always have.  Think of this as a new adventure.  Gather material for your writing.  Use the time you will spend at the
Center constructively.  Read good books.  Meet new people.
Stay positive.  Remember your brother and all the others who have fought this disease.  Believe the right thing will happen.
