                                   Today's News

For those of you who have been wondering what I've been up to, here's the latest.  As of last Friday I made a commitment to my nutritionist, Carolyn that I would strictly adhere to the diet guidelines she set forth.  And when I say strict, I am not kidding.

For example; no fruit, no dairy, no bread, no white anything, except cauliflower.  No pork, bacon, etc.  Lean beef is allowed occasionally.  No decaf coffee or tea, nothing out of a can, ie beans, vegetables, etc. no pasta including multigrain.  No condiments.  Lemon juice is allowed.  Well that pretty much sums it up.  And just when I went out and bought frozen mixed berries, bananas (which I don't even like but was going to use them in my Nutribullet), kiwi, watermelon, etc.   Oh and three boxes of blueberries.

So what's left you might ask?  All kinds of vegetables, sweet potatoes, lots of greens, turkey, chicken, wild salmon (that's the only fish or seafood allowed), eggs, whole grains like barley, quinnoa, brown rice, oatmeal and avacados.  That's about all I can think of at the moment.  And lots and lots of water.  I am also taking supplements.

Guess I won't be holding any dinner parties for awhile, nor will I be going out to lunch anytime soon.  Carolyn said this will be for three months and then we'll "see".  What ever that means.

I am doing all this in lieu of doing chemotherapy and I've made a list to remind myself of all the reasons - pro and con. I've come up with 20 reasons to do the nutritional thing and could come up with only 3 negatives; not being able to eat my favorite foods, cannot eat anything and everything in sight, and the need to pay attention to what I put in my mouth.  As you can see they all boil down to the same thing.

Tomorrow I will see my pulmonary doctor and show him my list.  So far he's been very supportive of what ever decision I've made.  I haven't spoken to the oncologist and I don't intend to.  Neither he nor the nutritionist can guarantee that they can cure cancer, but at least with my way I'll not be pumping poison into my body and instead will be eating more healthily than I have in years.

More on this journey later.  So far within the last 3 weeks I've lost 3 pounds, feel better with the exception of not being able to sleep because I'm stressing over what in the world I'm going to eat the next day!  Oh, and I just weighed myself.  I am down 5 pounds!
